Find balance - on and off the mat – with Pilates
Feb 02, 2023Balance is a state of equilibrium, serenity and calm. Balance is also associated with the ability to manage your life, to keep things in perspective, to handle adversity with a positive response.
Practicing Pilates offers an opportunity to develop both physical and mental balance. Studies have shown that Pilates improves quality of life by having a positive effect on depression and pain, most notably decreasing back pain. And what’s more is that Pilates is suitable for everybody, regardless of gender, age, race, size, ability, or current fitness level.
Balance is important at any age and necessary for everyday activities involving coordination, like walking, or any of life’s nonlinear movements, such as reaching up and twisting.
In order to have good balance, you need to have a strong centre, and you need to know how to find it. Pilates teaches you how by increasing your co-ordination and balance.
Balance is the art of being able to focus on one thing and block out all the other thoughts. In Pilates, the aim is to be able to focus fully on each movement, with one move flowing seamlessly into the next, bringing the mind and body together.
